Pre And Post Movie Eateries At The Cathay
PRE AND POST MOVIE EATERIES TO CHECK OUT AT THE CATHAY
From elegant French-style tapas to hearty burgers and artisanal tea, there’re plenty of reasons to head to The Cathay, aside from catching a flick.
From the folks behind Saveur, who made French dining affordable and accessible, FrapasBar is a fun see-and-be-seen place that serves cocktails and French-style tapas. We sampled a few signature dishes ideal for a group of three, starting with the Salmon Tartare, a refreshing mix of avocado, cucumber, honey, and salmon, topped off with ikura and edible flowers. A must-eat is the signature Saveur Pasta served with truffle oil and Sakura Ebi, and Sophia Risotto, an unusual creamy-spicy dish that blends crab meat and Muar otah. Pair your carbs with the Crispy Pork Belly served with an orange mustard puree, with balsamic baby onions; and Octopus Leg, grilled with a blend of herbs and spices and served with homemade pimento pepper puree.
THE ASSEMBLY GROUND, #01-21
Behind this too-cool-for-school coffee hangout (founded by the good people behind fashion brand Benjamin Barker) is a makan place that serves up a mean menu of satisfying eats from hearty pizzas and pastas to burgers. Star dishes include the Poulet Champignon, featuring a boneless chicken leg grilled to perfection, stuffed with creamy and aromatic truffle mushrooms. For something a little unusual, the Ocean Catch surprises us with an oven-baked barramundi drizzled with the chef’s very own secret spicy sauce of Hunan spices and other special ingredients. However, for us, the winning dish is the Iberico Pork with Citrus Sauce, a tender chargrilled Iberico pork collar made even juicier with a house-made citrus sauce.
This quaint tea-centric café at The Cathay is a Zen-like oasis, where you can pair a light Japanese meal with a soothing matcha, and end off with yummy Hojicha desserts or soft-serve ice cream, made from certified-organic tea. Pair the creamy-umami Matcha Milk (rumoured to be the best matcha in Singapore) with hearty Toriniku Katsu, featuring breaded chicken thigh marinated in spices and yellow mustard, and deep-fried till golden brown. It’s served on fluffy Japanese Calrose Rice and a delish carrot and potato curry. The meal ended on a sweet high with a serving of Uji Matcha, a parfait made with soft-serve ice cream made from spring-harvested umami matcha powder from Kyoto Uji. It’s topped with crunchy matcha granola and roasted soybean espuma and two kinds of mochi that will satisfy anyone’s sweet cravings!
