Creative Expression Reigns
Break the rules and arm yourself with a thirst for creative self-expression this June at The Cathay’s INK & ART event. Returning for the third year in a row, INK & ART is calling the bold and adventurous to join its counter-culture tribe of free-spirited radicals to flaunt their identities in style—loud and proud.
Happening on 22 and 23 June 2019 (Saturday and Sunday) from 1pm – 9pm, the two-day event features mystery tattoos and tattoo showcases helmed by popular local tattoo studio, Traditions Tattoo Collective. This year, in response to overwhelming demand, the ink station will be amped up with not one but two mystery tattoo stations—all ready to ink the ones lucky (and brave) enough to get a coveted spot.
Tattoo artists Lionel Ng (@lionelngtattoo), Lee Wai Leng (@fleecircus) and Yin (@yinktattoos) will be at the event offering mystery tattoos to shoppers who spend a minimum of S$80 at any shop in The Cathay. Shoppers will select from a series of words, which will then be translated into a permanent, 6cm by 6cm tattoo, based on the tattoo artist’s interpretation of the word. There will be a limited number of tattoo slots per day, available on a first-come-first-served basis.
There will be also be a myriad of activities to keep shoppers entertained throughout the day. For those who want to be a part of the fun, but not quite ready to go all the way, artists from Out & Ink (@outandink) will be on ground to dish out temporary but hyper-realistic tattoos! Shoppers curious about the tattooing process can also enjoy a live tattoo showcase by the talented artists at Traditions Tattoo Collective that will take place once a day, on Saturday and Sunday. Shoppers can also soak in the creative atmosphere and take in music performances by The Moon House, Genesis Keefer and YanHui, while feasting their eyes on a live mural showcase by a local urban artist, ARAIKREVA (@araikreva) and whimsical doodles by Paintinks by Melt (@paintinks_by_melt).
“At The Cathay, we’re all for youth exploring and discovering their sense of self through art and style, without the shackles of rules and conventions. INK & ART is about creating a space for youth to come together and embrace their individualities; and the event also doubles up as a platform to nurture local artists to showcase their skills and unleash their creativity. The response for the event over the years has been amazing and we’re so excited to bring it back for the third time in 2019,” said a spokesperson from The Cathay.
Save the dates and head over to The Cathay on 22 and 23 June 2019 for an unforgettable weekend of ink, art and more.
