Salads Are Not Boring

We all know the nutritional benefits of eating greens and fruits and salads being one of the most healthy meals isn’t something we haven’t heard of, although many of us find it hard to replace ramen or fried rice with a bowl of greens. But if you think salads are just about boring bland vegetables, honey, you are so wrong.

Unless you have an extremely strict dietary requirement, you can mix up your salad in many ways with an endless number of ingredients and dressings.

Thanks to Salad Stop!, salads can be just as exciting as burgers and laksa! Here’re a few of our favorite healthy yet delicious toppings and dressings. Talk about killing two birds with one stone! 😉

SEARED TUNA

This has got to be our favorite. It adds an interesting Japanese twist to your salad. Not surprising, tuna has a long list of health benefits.

Tuna comprises omega-3 fatty acids which helps reduce cholesterol in the arteries, thus improving heart health. Tuna is also rich in potassium, which is effective in lowering blood pressure, risk of stroke and heart attacks. Rich in manganese, zinc, vitamin C and selenium, tuna strengthens immune system. Low in fat content, rich in proteins and nutrients, containing Vitamin B and antioxidants, tuna has a vast number of other benefits such as weight loss, strengthening of bones, improving skin health, lowers risk of cancer and the list goes on.

WARM LEMONGRASS CHICKEN THIGH

Salads doesn’t mean meatless guys! The Warm Lemongrass and Chicken Thigh is a marriage of two of our favourite ingredients, fragrant and tender.

Notice lemongrass is often the scent at massage parlors? Yes, same reason as how the scent provides a calming effect, eating it helps fight insomnia.

Lemongrass contains antioxidants, flavonoids and phenolic compounds such as luteolin, glycosides, quercetin, kaempferol, elemicin, catechol, chlorogenic acid, and caffeic acid, which provides a wide range of medicinal aids. Other than insomnia, Lemongrass is effective in preventing stomach and respiratory disorders, fever, pain, swelling and infections.

Chicken thighs are good sources of lean protein. Chicken Thigh contains more fat content than breast yes, but good news! Like avocado, it’s the “good fat”, healthy monounsaturated fats.

HALLOUMI CHEESE

You either love it or hate it, and we absolutely love halloumi cheese! It’s a semi-hard cheese, brined and slightly springy in texture, somewhat similar to that of mozzarella or a thick feta, except that it has a strong, salty flavor from the brine preserve.

Halloumi is a great source of calcium, providing 70% of the adult recommended daily allowance in one portion. Halloumi is also high in protein, thus a great ingredient for vegetarian. It contains zinc, selenium, magnesium, vitamin A and many of the B vitamins.

However, being a cheese, and a salty one, halloumi is naturally high in both fat and salt. So do take note of the portion size.

WARM SPICED CHICKPEAS

On its own, they’re a delicious and addictive snack. In a salad, they are little pops of crunch!

The little chickpeas has a long list of nutritional benefits. It is a rich source of vitamins, minerals and fiber which improves digestion, helps in weight management and reduce the risk of several other diseases. Similar to halloumi cheese, chickpeas are also high in protein, thus an excellent alternative to meat.

If watching your weight, chickpeas may just be your best friend. The dietary fibers that it contains act as bulking agents that increase the feeling of fullness after eating and for a longer period of time.

AVOCADO

Avocado everything, from toast to dips to smoothies, breakfast, lunch and dinner, there’s no denying that this power ingredient has rose to fame in recent years and there’s no surprise why! They’re simply good for you.

Avocados contain as many as 20 vitamins and minerals, but what stands out is how it’s full of good fat, healthy and beneficial fat that help to keep you full and satiated. These good fat aids in skin health, enhances the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients, and even help boost the immune system.

Other than helping in weight loss, Avocados are also good for the heart, vision, bones and the list goes on.

These are not it for sure, there’re so many other delicious ingredients/ toppings that we’re often just spoilt for choice. Salad Stop! also has a total of 8 different dressings for you to choose from from Thai Turmeric at 31 KCals to Arabian Spiced Vinaigrette at 123 KCals per serving. Our favourites are the Arabian Spiced Vinaigrette and Wasabi Honey Soy!
