Celebrate Love (For Yourself) This Valentine’s Day

Don’t have a bae? Contrary to common belief, Valentine’s Day can still be monumental even if you’re single. The celebration of love comes in many forms. Instead of stressing over having to plan a romantic gesture for that special someone, being single means you can have the luxury of making your own plans, doing what you want. Because hey, there’s really nothing more important than self-love.

So dedicate February 14 to yourself.

Here’re some ideas on how you can spend this special day, giving yourself the time and space of just being yourself.

TREAT YOURSELF

Cut yourself some slack. Love desserts? Dig in to a hot fudge brownie and ice cream and eat it with no guilt. Been eyeing on that pair of earrings? Get it. Think you need a break? Take the day off. Sick of standing in a crowded train in the morning? Book a ride to work today.

PAMPER YOURSELF

Live a little, indulge in some “me time” and serious pampering. You deserve it, because honestly, how often do you do that? Unwind with a full body massage, accompanied with aromatic essential oils that completely relaxes not just your muscles, but your mind, or opt for the Hot Stone Massage that targets acupressure points to relieve stiff and sore muscles. Book your session at Inner Harmony (HERE), trust us, this could be the best decision you’ll make this year.

PASS THE LOVE FORWARD

They say being nice and doing something nice for someone can lift spirits. Put smiles on people’s faces today by performing random act of kindness, give more hugs, share your treats, buy your colleague a drink, share your brolly on a rainy day.

SIGN UP FOR A CLASS TO SWEAT IT OUT

Do yourself a favour, kick start your exercise regime. Other than the obvious health benefits, exercising can boost your mood. Your muscles may ache and you may feel out of breath while doing so, but how you feel post-sweating is one that is rejuvenating. Drills and spartan workouts are not the best idea if you’ve not been regularly working out, perhaps start with low intensity Restorative Yoga or medium intensity classes like Body Jam, Zumba or Aerial Flow Yoga, all available at Fitness First.

GO ON SOCIAL MEDIA DETOX

Social media is the number one source of distraction from a complete “me-time”. Stop the urge of scrolling through your newsfeed looking at selfies of lovey dovey couples, or girl friends flaunting their bouquet of roses or candle-light dinners and disconnect from the digital space for the day to fully immerse in your own enjoyment. It truly doesn’t matter how others are spending Valentine’s Day, all that matter today is you and only you.

WATCH A MOVIE YOURSELF

Should you watch a movie yourself? The answer is an absolute yes. You have achieved self-love when you feel comfortable enough to go to the movies alone. You’ll notice that it feels good to make your own decisions, what to watch, where to sit, what to munch on, and how you feel about the movie.

CATCH UP ON YOUR SLEEP

There’s nothing wrong with not being a social butterfly, being out and about just because everyone is. There’s nothing wrong with being labelled ‘boring’ just because you choose to stay home. Embrace it, do it, just because you feel like it.
